How to Get Rid of Canker Sores

How to Get Rid of Canker Sores

Blame it on hereditary, blame it on toothpaste, blame it on citrus or tomatoes.  I don’t care who or what you blame, but blame SOMETHING!  It will make me feel better.  Since I was a small child, I have been plagued with those nasty little canker sores (but they feel so big in your mouth!).  Sometimes having as many as 10 in my mouth AT ONE TIME.  The most painful ones are on the tongue.  OW!   It’s miserable when you have so many sores in your mouth that it’s painful to chew.  Just terrible I tell you!  For many years taking acidopholis pills effectively.  But, all of a sudden these nasty sores came creeping back.  I don’t get them as bad anymore, but when I do, I need something quick to stave off those painful little creatures and I finally found something that works for me!  I feel like it’s a little miracle in my life that I can eat what I want to and control the pain of those little buggers.  Anyway, after much trial and error and lots of things that didn’t work for me, I did find out how to get rid of canker sores quickly, easily, and with items you may already have in your pantry.

If you only use this for canker sores, it will last you a very long time, years in fact.  I believe the cost was less than $10.

All you need is:

1 tsp children’s Benadryl (off brand is fine)

1 tsp apple cider vinegar with the ‘mother’.

All you do, is mix those 2 ingredients in a small cup (I used the child’s measuring cup that came with the Benadryl) with a qtip.  Then use the qtip to dab the mixture onto your canker sores.  It stings like a crazy person for about 10 seconds, but then….  relief…  it numbs those babies and makes them go away in a day or two.  You can use this mixture several times per day if needed.  I generally use it at meal times and before bed.  It’s saved my quality of life.  I store the mixture with a little piece of plastic wrap over it for a few days at a time.

Please note: I am not a doctor.  I just found something that works for me and maybe it might work for you too…  you should always ask your doctor before trying something new.  You know that already though.

I have suffered from canker soars my whole life and man do I hate those buggers! Five years ago my mouth broke out like crazy to the point I started doing some “Google Doctoring”. In my research signs started point to Celiacs Disease. At first I didn’t think that was my issue because I didn’t have the most “common” symptoms. Well, guess what…… I have Celiacs and since staying clear from all things gluten I have not had any sores!!!

Thanks for this info! My 5 year old daughter gets horrible canker sores lasting up to 2 wks at times. It has been so difficult & frustrating to get no guidance from Doctors or dentists in treating the darn things! I hate seeing my sweet girl suffer! We have researched & tried countless remedies & have come up unsuccessful. I recently tried the raw organic cider vinegar & it seems to somewhat reduce symptoms. I will most certainly give the cider vinegar- benadryl combination a try! We will also try sensodyne! Thanks again!

    1. I hope it works for you! I have suffered with canker sores all my life too, they are horrible!

If these are a chronic issue for you, you most likely have a SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) sensitivity. It’s in most toothpastes. Find one that doesn’t have this ingredient and you should see a decrease in getting these. Regular sensodyne is SLS free ☺

    1. Thanks Dr. D! I have switched recently, so maybe that was the problem.

  1. I will try it I have had this latest sore attach for about 11 days and I have tried everything so I’m gonna give this a shot

  2. A canker sore is a little ulcer in the protective lining of your mouth. Unlike cold sores, which are caused by the herpes virus, canker sores are not the result of viral or bacterial infections and are not contagious.canker sore
