Continue reading]]> My kids love smoothies and this healthy strawberry banana smoothie recipe is my go to when we have company over or if we are just looking for a refreshing and healthy treat.  You don’t have to have a Blendtec blender, that’s ok. Just use what you have. But, if you plan to have smoothies often, I would highly recommend investing in one. I make a green smoothie every day for breakfast, and other blenders I’ve tried just didn’t hold a candle to the Blendtec. I’ve had mine for several years and it’s the most used kitchen appliance in my house. I can’t say enough good things about it!

Strawberry Banana Smoothie Recipe

(put in blender in the order listed)

1 ripe banana

1 small can pineapple canned with natural juice and no sugar (optional).  Dump in the whole thing.  If you don’t use pineapple, add in a tablespoon of agave nectar or honey to sweeten the smoothie.

1-2 cups coconut milk (or milk of your choice).  Use less for a thicker smoothie.

1 T. chia seed, a super-food and full of omega 3’s (they are tasteless)

2 T. gogi berry, a super-food, kind of tastes like a raisin.

2 cups frozen strawberries

3 ice cubes

Blend twice on the frozen fruits function of the blender.

Additional things you could add: (unsweetened sparkling water instead of coconut milk, 2 c. spinach, grapes, honey, or mango)

Serve with an ice cub and a bendy straw and you’re done!  In case you are wondering, the cups were purchased on ebay.

How to Freeze Spinach for Smoothies https://www.positivelymommy.com/2013/04/how-to-freeze-spinach-for-smoothies/ https://www.positivelymommy.com/2013/04/how-to-freeze-spinach-for-smoothies/#comments Fri, 05 Apr 2013 16:11:37 +0000 http://www.positivelymommy.com/?p=1988

Continue reading]]> I buy a lot of spinach.  I eat a lot of spinach.  I might turn into Popeye one of these days!  I try to eat 2 pounds of Organic spinach per week.  Do you know how much a pound of spinach is?  It’s a lot.  It’s 2 giant costco boxes.  I have a couple tricks for making it last longer (like putting a paper towel in the box to absorb moisture).  I will tell you what though, I hate going to costco twice a week to buy spinach as it’s the cheapest place by more than half the price.  So, I came up with a way to freeze it.  It’s really easy and all you need is a blender and ice cube trays with lids (preferably).

Here’s how to freeze spinach for smoothies

Pour 1 cup of 100% orange juice not from concentrate in the bottom of your blender.  Add 1/2 pound spinach.  Don’t be afraid to stuff it in if you have a powerful blender like a blendtec or vitamix.  Blend until liquefied.  Add another 1/2 pound of spinach and blend again.  You can add in some wheat grass juice or chia seeds and blend again if desired.  Pour into ice cube trays.  Put on lid and freeze. If there are any leftover, make a smoothie out of it or put in a pintt freezer bag!

You can use them right out of the ice cube trays or put them in a ziploc freezer bag for easy smoothies later on.  If you skip the oj and use water, I’m sure you could use these cubes in cooking recipes as well.  It’s up to you.  With the concept down, you can go to costco less often, yay!

Here’s a photo of what the cubes look like frozen:  Just pop them in your blender as is!  This is so easy and a great way to always have enough spinach for smoothies on hand.

Here’s a video from our YouTube Channel that shows techniques about how to make green smoothies.  I know you can’t taste it from home, but believe me it was delicious.  And I’m not the only one who thought so, everyone who tried it while I was there said it was good, including a little kid!

Continue reading]]> I make a smoothie nearly every day.  I love my Blendtec blender for that reason. I feel like it has helped our family eat a lot healthier and waste less fruits and vegetables. Instead of wasting, we throw them into a smoothie!

This dairy free peach smoothie recipe is definitely for kids or adults.  It’s healthy, tasty, and easy.  I like easy. Just throw the following ingredients into the blender in the order listed, blend, and you’re done!

DAIRY FREE PEACH SMOOTHIE RECIPE

2-3 fresh peaches, pitted and roughly cut

1 banana

3 cups vanilla almond or rice milk

1 T. Chia seeds (superfood with no taste)

1/4 cup ice

optional: frozen strawberries or raspberries and a handful of spinach

Simply blend and enjoy!  Aren’t the matryoshka cups cute?  I stumbled upon them while on vacation in Seattle at Target of all places.  It reminds me of my days in Russia and also makes it fun for the kids!  I think presentation is everything.  I try to serve smoothies in beautiful cups with a straw.  I think it makes them taste better :).

Continue reading]]> I adore my Blendtec Blender! I have a green smoothie nearly every day and it tastes fabulous.  My kids love them too.  I use my Blendtec, oh, at least once a day and sometimes multiple times per day. I have become kind of a little famous with my children’s friends because every time they come over they ask if I will make them smoothies. I love that the smoothies taste like a dessert but are secretly healthy. When I was away on vacation for a month this last summer I stayed with my sister in law who has a (I’m whispering this so no one will hear) Vitamix.  I made a few smoothies in it and I couldn’t get them to blend up.  I know there are people who love their Vitamix as much as I love my Blentec, but I honestly think Blendtec is heads and shoulders above Vitamix.  It blends better without even having a tamper.  Anyway, that’s just my personal opinion.  I have had my blendtec for several years.  I did have a problem with the rubber seal on the bottom leaking after a couple years.  I got a brand new replacement for free.  That’s the kind of company they are.  Now on to this yummy smoothie recipe with spinach!

Berry Spinach Smoothie

I love smoothie recipes. Smoothies just make my day better and give me lots of energy and I feel healthier when I drink them.  This one was a really good one.  It has spinach in it, but the spinach taste is not overpowering.  I used frozen strawberries to make it really cold and raspberries fresh from my garden to make it very tasty!

I made this smoothie recipe for breakfast after I went for a long run and it was very refreshing.  It has 2 superfoods in it including gogi berries which help with energy production and chia seeds which are full of fiber and omega 3’s.  They are pretty much tasteless so I can put them in every smoothie recipe I want to.

This smoothie was made in my Blendtec Wildside Blender which I use just about every day.  Sometimes multiple times a day!

You will see this recipe is gluten and dairy free and you won’t even miss it, since it tastes so yummy!

Here’s the recipe for this smoothie:

1 cup raspberries

1 cup frozen strawberries

2 cups organic baby spinach

2 cups fresh squeezed orange juice (or not from concentrate)

1 cup rice milk

2 T. gogi Berries

1 T. chia seed

Blend on frozen fruit setting.  Makes about 6 cups of smoothie.

Continue reading]]> We love smoothie recipes for kids!  We have a healthy smoothie pretty much every day in our family.  It’s so great.  I’d say our Wildside Blendtec Blender is the most used appliance in the kitchen.  It never collects dust.  I always tell my friends that it’s worth the $400 price tag, just think of all the doctor’s visits you’ll avoid.  Our family hardly ever gets sick and I think it’s because we get enough fruits and vegetables every day from our smoothies.  All of our smoothies are also dairy free for those of you like us with terrible milk allergies.

A lot of people ask where I get my paper straws.  I purchase them on Amazon from this seller.  Call me Sarah Palin, but I can’t drink a smoothie without a straw!

This smoothie is very very sweet.  You could even add a 2 cups of spinach and your kids would never know.  Shhh…

Healthy Smoothie Recipe

We make a healthy smoothie in our nearly every day at our house.  Our Blendtec Blender
is the most used appliance in our house by far.  I don’t post all of the smoothie recipes I make, but I try to post the best ones.  I make these when the kids ARE NOT looking because if they see what goes in them, they are less likely to drink them, even if they taste good.  This healthy smoothie recipe for kids was a great addition to our dinner tonight.  I think presentation means a lot too.  If you serve it to them in a fancy cup with a beautiful straw, they are more likely to drink and like them more.
